About Author

Dr. S. Balachandra Rao is formerly Hon. Director, Bhavan’s Gandhi Centre of Science and Human Values, Bengaluru. He retired as Principal and Professor of Mathematics from the National College, Basavanagudi, Bengaluru after a little more than 35 years of service.
Currently Dr. Rao is Member, International Astronomical Union (IAU) and Hon. Senior Fellow, NIAS, Bengaluru. Dr. Rao has authored about 30 books – 15 each in English and Kannada – related to classical Indian Mathematics and Astronomy, including translations of original Sanskrit works to English and Kannada. He has been researching in the field since 1993 including on the projects sponsored by INSA, New Delhi. Dr.Rao has published – singly and jointly –  several papers in prestigious journals in India and abroad and contributed valued articles to volumes edited by esteemed scientists like Professors Jayant Narlikar, B.V.Sreekantan and T.Padmanabhan as also to the proceedings of national and international conferences.
